The South Hamilton School District Wellness Policy was developed in response to federal legislation which mandated that each school district participating in the USDA funded school meals program establish a local wellness policy.
The legislation required that the policy set goals in the following four different areas and to have a plan for measuring policy implementation.

  • Nutrition Education
  • Physical Activity
  • Nutrition Guidelines for all foods sold on campus during the school day
  • Other school-based activities designed to promote student wellness

The legislation also required that Parents, Students, Nutrition Services staff, School Board representatives, Principals, and Community Members be involved in developing the policy.
